Trevor Baker

Singer/Songwriter

Trevor picked up a guitar in 1990 and he began to write songs which he learned quickly were not from any natural talent but from above. A few years prior to this he became a Christian after the loss of his boyhood friend to suicide. His first album was recorded in 1992 and he began full time in the year 2000, has recorded 30 albums, written over 350 songs and given nearly 3000 concerts at theatres, churches, prisons, schools and festivals as well as Care Homes in 10 provinces of Canada and 30 states in the USA.

He found out that awards were more of a hindrance rather than a blessing after he won Canadian Country Gospel Album of the Year on two occasions in the early years. He chose to opt out of the show business part of music and concentrate on the true purpose. If the music was only attracting attention to himself and not to God then it was pointless in his eyes.

TRAGEDY TO BLESSING

Trevor had been a full time songwriter and singer for 20 years when he encountered a tragedy in his life in 2019. Months later he performed 8 concerts at Care homes during the Christmas season. He quickly discovered how it was medicine for his own pain as he heard stories from those who had went through far greater hardship than himself. Some spoke of how their faith in God had carried them during insurmountable odds.

During 2020 and Covid, he organized 70 volunteer outdoor concerts which led him to understand the need among the elderly to a greater extent. The value of music to touch the hearts of even those suffering from dementia was eye opening.

He noticed that several of the songs that he wrote during his own valley brought an instant connection with audiences. Tears were flowing and some said they hadn’t cried in 30 years. Music has a way of bringing not only joy but healing for the lonely and those who have carried pain for many years. Trevor was witnessing this.

As the ministry evolved there were 4 more CDS recorded and a book he wrote in 2022. By 2025 over 10,000 CDS, Books, Audiobooks and USBs had been given out for free and 370 volunteer concerts had been performed in 9 provinces and 16 states. Trevor has a goal of hopefully reaching 1000 different Care Facilities. The comment he receives more than any other is, “You really made me think today”

The tender smiles on these wrinkled gems is the most rewarding experience he has ever encountered though out his years of touring. This is one group in our culture that has become increasingly ignored and yet are so precious to God.

Donations came in during 2024 for the purchase of a 2013 sprinter van with a home conversion costing $42,000. This was about 1/4 the price of a new one and even with 300,000 km, she will probably last several years. What a blessing.
